“Dayle, There is only one place in the lower 48 where you can consistently sight fish to fish as big as those rainbows! That is the Hams Fork. I’m already looking forward to next summer. Unbelievable!”
“Dayle guided me on the Ham’s Fork and it was a great experience. His talent for teaching taught this old dog new trout fishing techniques and his wife, Barbara, treated me like family with her wonderful hospitality. I recommend a guided fly fishing trip with Dayle to anyone wanting to catch big fish on light fly tackle.”
“Dayle, We really enjoyed our day on the Smiths Fork I’m looking forward to fishing with you again next year!”
“Barbara and Dayle, It was a great day and an excellent introduction to Fly Fishing. Thanks again for an awesome dinner!”
“I just wanted to thank Dayle and Barbara for two great days of fly fishing. I with Dayle’s guidance caught quite a few fish, but the best part was his incredible knowledge and insight as to techniques, gear set up and use, casting instruction and fly choice and designs. I’m sure I’m forgetting some things. I’ve fished extensively and I learned more in two days than I would have ever expected. Throw in being very responsive when contacted, easy to work with in setting updates and dinner after fishing, I even brought my brother to dinner who didn’t fish……WOW. What a great trip with them. I highly recommend flyfishing western Wyoming…..Dayle and Barbara.”
“We have fished with Dayle for the last 4 years. When we needed brushing up, he would hold a short clinic if needed, then off we go. Other times we just go fishing. Dayle is very knowledgeable and spends the time being sure that our presentations are correct to hook fish. He has a great sense of humor and works very hard to make the experience wonderful. He is the only guide that I know that is a certified casting instructor and it shows as he will help tweak my presentations and entice a bite. He knows the rivers well and if the water level is too high, he always knows of other places that work.”
“Dayle, The Fly Casting workshop you gave last week was the best I’ve ever attended. You are the best! Thank you!”
“I’ve had the opportunity to attend several casting events with Dayle in the past year or so and have learned a great deal. I already had my C.I. designation but Dayle has opened my eyes to how much my skills needed to improve. His teaching methods have particularly assisted me in my efforts to mentor a group of C.I. candidates over the past year. I would encourage all the existing C.I.’s to never neglect to follow a continuing education path. Dayle’s videos on the internet would be a great place to start!”
“I highly recommend the service and guidance provided by Dayle and Barbara on some of the best big fish tail-race water in Wyoming. Dayle’s experience and knowledge of fly fishing and his desire to put you on large fish will provide for a memorable trip.”
“Dayle, I’ve fished all over the world and I’ll tell you the Hams Fork is as good as it gets!!”
“Dayle is one of the most invested and knowledgeable teachers in fly fishing. It’s a gift to learn from him!”
“Even though fishing was tough, with Dayle’s super effort and Barbara’s gourmet cooking a memorable time was had by both of us!”
“Dayle is by far the most knowledgeable and skilled fly fisherman and guide that I have ever fished with, and I feel fortunate to know him and his delightful wife Barbara. My son and I are looking forward to getting out to Wyoming this summer again. Dale doesn’t just put you on fish, he also shares his vast and immense knowledge of various techniques and skills that will improve your “game”. These folks are the best!”
“Fond memories! Dayle, you taught me so much and even now as I get ready for my test next month, I’m reviewing your notes. I still think of that big rainbow you caught while demonstrating how you can fish while throwing tailing loops! Barb, you’re the best, picking us up in Salt Lake, fixing our meals and running the operation…Thank You”
“I have known Dayle for several years now and I have not come across anyone with the knowledge and passion that Dayle has for Fly Fishing. He is a teacher at heart. You will learn to cast and ultimately catch fish with him.”
“Fishing with you always is the highlight of the year.”
“I’m hesitant to write a strong recommendation for Dayle and Barbara because selfishly, I really don’t want the word out too far! They are a great team. I’ve fished with far too many guides over the course of 30+ years, and Dayle is, without question, the best I have ever engaged. Patient, knowledgeable, persistent – an excellent teacher and coach – and now friend. Barbara is the best hostess and support staff one could imagine, making your visit with the two of them seem like a trip to see family. That’s why I now try to make it to Western Wyoming at least twice a year!”
“My son and I have been going back to fish with Dayle (mainly on the Ham’s Fork) for many years, after first meeting him through a friend. I personally go to Wyoming to fish with Dayle 2-3 times each summer. The fishing and the environment in the area around Kemmerer are fantastic, and getting there is easy. If you haven’t already done so, I recommend that you try it out, and if you have done it before do it again. Also, be sure to reserve well ahead, as time slots fill up quickly, for a world-class fishing experience.”
“Dayle and Barbara Mazzarella’s Casting Instructor and Master Casting Instructor preparation camps are truly amazing! I know of no better way to accelerate your casting performance, teaching skills, and fishing techniques than to attend camp. You will learn a ton, clearly, understand what you need to do to pass, and have an awesome time….not to mention the world-class trout fishing where you will internalize the casts you will teach, delicious food, exceptional professionalism and courtesy, and camaraderie with other candidates are also top notch! I provide my strongest recommendation to any candidate desiring to become certified! Simply put, I would not have passed without attending.”
“I attended Dayle’s pre-CCI prep camp in June of 2018. I was welcomed at the airport with open arms by his wife, Barbara. Their nephew collected us the first morning of the 3-day camp and he delivered us to Dayle who was equally welcoming when we arrived at the camp. The camp was an intense 3-day program with casting instruction, lunch at the trailer, guided fishing to put teachings to use finishing of with a delicious home-cooked meal prepared by Barbara. The evenings were rounded off with discussions of teaching and what was learned during the course of the day. I learned an incredible amount from Dayle as well as those assisting him. In August of 2018 I challenged the CCI exam in Livingston and Passed at my first attempt! I would recommend the program to anyone who wants to excel at fly casting and who wants to pass the CCI Exam.”
“I have had the good fortune, of being able to attend 2 of Dayle and Barbara Mazzarella’s Fly Casting Instructional courses, while at the 2016 and 2017 FFI Fair, in Livingston Montana, Dayle and Barbara make a great team and I must say they are a pleasure to be around. Both courses were 8 hours and I was very impressed with how informative, and well prepared each aspect of the day when you can tell they have done their homework. You can just look at their YouTube channel to see how professional they are! Dayle is one of the best Fly Casting Instructor’s I know. He is very knowledgeable and patient and his passion for helping others comes through. Dayle has helped me improve my fly casting and there is no doubt, upon taking a lesson from Dayle, you will also walk away from a better caster.”
“I was fortunate to have spent a day in Mr. Mazzarella’s casting and instruction clinics. Dayle was thoroughly organized and more than knowledgeable about casting mechanics and the best way to teach them. He builds on one skill after another allowing time for students to practice and answering all questions, usually with a helpful demonstration. Feedback after practice is encouraged as a way of promoting understanding and mastery through additional drills as needed, the class instruction being supplemented by drills and exercises the students take home to use in their practice. Dayle showed a ready willingness to work with all the students regardless of their ability and was quick to analyze casting flaws and make corrections besides directing students to their next achievement. You will rarely if ever find a casting instructor so devoted to the methodology of instruction, so knowledgeable about and accomplished in casting mechanics, and so attentive to the needs of the student and their desire to improve as flyfishers than Mr. Mazzarella. I continue to learn so much through his instruction. He is a godsend to our sport.”
“I have had the opportunity to assist Dayle with the Spey related tasks in a couple of his MCI instructional camps and was very impressed with his teaching methods and thoughtful dissection of each particular task and the attention he gave each attending student. If you are seriously pursuing your FFI single hand certification, I certainly recommend his camp for the instruction related to each and every task and relevant examiner expectations. The other bonuses are the delicious meals prepared by Barbara and the evening fishing for big fat Rainbows! Well worth the price of admission!”
I recently had the opportunity to fly fish with Dylan, a remarkable young man, as my guide. On two different days, Dylan was my guide on the Hams Fork River in Western Wyoming. His knowledge of the river and how to fish it was thorough. His ability to teach me how to fish the river was impressive. I am an acceptable caster, but the subtleties of how to fish the river was at best marginal. Dylan was patient in coaching me on where, when, and how to cast. He was also responsive when I would ask him to demonstrate a cast he was asking me to do. His casting skills were excellent (nuff said). He was very patient when I couldn’t deliver a cast correctly. If he experienced any frustration with my casting and fishing, I never detected it.
Put it all together and you can guess; yes, I caught fish.
Dayle, I just wanted to tell you what a great guide Dylan was during my fishing on the Ham’s Fork. He made every effort to ensure that I had a very special fishing experience. It was amazing to me how he was able to spot those beautiful fish and help me to get the right fly to the right place at the right time.
He gave me so many tips to better casting particularly with the roll cast and constant tension cast which was a great new technique which he was able to get me up to speed within a very short period of time. His work with me in efficiently playing fish resulted in me being able to bring at least half of the fish to net that I would have never landed otherwise.
I truly believe that Dylan’s guiding expertise and enthusiasm for helping me with casting, mending, and numerous other fishing skills have greatly improved both the pleasure and success rate of my fishing. Please convey my profound appreciation to Dylan for all his help.
“Dylan is an awesome guide. I have worked with him several times over the years and his knowledge, not only of fly fishing but also of casting technique is truly astounding. Fishing with Dylan is a true pleasure because as he puts you on fish he explains and educates in those teachable moments, and afterward, I have come away with a much improved and successful fisherman.”
